ARTS & CRAFTS STYLE

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Arts & Crafts movement spread through art, jewelry, pottery, furniture and, of course, architecture.

Some say it was a reaction to the extensively decorative Victorian era. Arts & Crafts promoted — in all its guises — originality, simplicity of form, local natural materials and traditional handicraft. Arts & Crafts style houses are often large and rambling with distinctive, unique floor plans.

Looking around the open floor plan of an Arts & Crafts interior, details abound. Handcrafted wood, glass and metalwork, exposed roof rafters or beamed ceilings, built-in cabinets, shelves and seating met the eye at every turn. Outside, you would see multiple steeply pitched and gabled roofs that shelter porches with thick, square or round stone columns and stone chimneys.

“My wife and I sought Jeff out to build our house based on the recommendation of others. The experience we had with he and his staff was flawless. The quality of the work delivered was excellent. Jeff’s integrity through his interactions with us was stellar. We now have the privilege of highly recommending Jeff and Brio to others.”
